Which EU icon fits?
Three symbols for three situations.
Basic icon
When AI was involved or a custom text label or interactive second layer is provided.
Fully AI-generated
When the entire relevant content was generated by AI without human-created elements.
Partially AI-modified
When pre-existing human-made content was altered with AI into manipulated content.

What Article 50 actually requires.
The EU AI Act transparency obligations have applied since 2 August 2026. For deployers, they particularly concern deepfakes and certain AI-generated or manipulated text on matters of public interest.
Not every AI image automatically falls within the disclosure duty. One key question is whether it resembles existing people, places, objects or events and could falsely appear authentic. Artistic, creative, satirical and fictional works are subject to special rules for appropriate disclosure.
The icon is optional; transparency may not be
The EU icons are free and optional. Where Article 50 requires disclosure, it must be clear, perceivable and distinguishable. Using an icon alone does not establish legal compliance.

Choose “AI GENERATED” when the relevant content was generated entirely by AI and contains no human-created elements apart from prompting.
Use it when pre-existing human-made content was materially altered with AI, for example through a face swap or by adding synthetic objects.
No. Image processing happens locally in your browser. The page does not send your image to a server.
No. It creates a visible disclosure. Whether and how content must be labelled depends on the facts. A visible label also does not replace machine-readable marking obligations that may apply to AI system providers.
